The Ultimate CONNETIX Guide

The Ultimate CONNETIX Guide

Okay, so you’ve decided to enter your Connetix era. Excellent decision.

Where to start though? Starter Pack? Creative Pack? Mega Pack? Ball Run? Pastel? Rainbow? Roads? Base Plates? There are SO many options, and while that's one of the things I love about Connetix it can make knowing where to start a bit overwhelming. You definitely don’t need to buy everything at once. The best part about Connetix is that you can start with a great core set and gradually build their collection.

First things first: What are Connetix?

Connetix are premium magnetic construction tiles designed for open-ended play.

Rather than being a toy with one particular purpose or one “right” way to play, children can connect the magnetic pieces together to create whatever their imagination comes up with. Think houses, castles, rockets, towers, roads, animals, marble runs, garages, and rainbow creations! As children grow and their skills develop, their builds can grow with them too.

These aren't going to be played with twice and forgotten about at the bottom of the toy box. Connetix is designed for children aged 3+ and encourages children to explore, experiment, design and problem-solve through play.

Why is everyone obsessed with Connetix?

If you've ever wondered why magnetic tiles seem to be in every playroom on Instagram, there's a reason. They're FUN. But underneath all that building, knocking down and rebuilding, there's also a whole lot of learning happening.

CONNETIX can encourage:

  • Creativity and imagination
  • Problem-solving
  • Fine motor development
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Spatial awareness
  • Understanding of shapes and patterns
  • Engineering and construction concepts
  • Cause and effect
  • STEAM learning
  • Collaborative and independent play

And because there isn't one particular outcome children are trying to achieve, the exact same tiles can become something completely different every time they're pulled out. One day they're building a zoo. The next it's a princess castle. Then suddenly you're being instructed not to touch the enormous “airport” taking up half of your lounge room.

Okay … which Connetix pack should I start with?

If you want to test the waters or you're buying for a younger child who is just beginning their magnetic tile journey, a Starter Pack is an easy place to begin. They're a really good balance between having plenty to create with without necessarily jumping straight into one of the biggest collections.

Perfect for:

  • First-time CONNETIX families
  • Younger builders
  • Birthdays
  • Grandparents' houses
  • Starting a collection you'll add to over time

_______

If you want to go BIG from the beginning, this is where the Mega Packs come in. More tiles give children the freedom to build taller, wider and more elaborate creations. A larger collection can also be great if you have siblings or children who regularly build together.

Perfect for:

  • CONNETIX-loving households
  • Multiple children
  • Bigger builds
  • Long-term play
  • Going all-in from the beginning

_______

There are so many great options for growing your Connetix collection. Add more shapes or colours to level up your builds. Base Plates can provide a sturdy foundation for larger creations, while Expansion packs help children explore longer, taller and more complex structures.

These aren't necessarily the first packs we’d suggest for a new Connetix family to buy, but they're fantastic expansion pieces once you've already got a good collection of standard tiles.

_______

Ball Runs add tubes, connectors and balls to magnetic tile builds, allowing children to design tracks with twists, turns and drops.

And while your kids are trying to work out why the ball isn't making it to the bottom, they're experimenting with concepts like gravity, motion, force and cause-and-effect without even realising they're learning.

If you are looking to add to your Connetix Collection, a Ball Run can be a brilliant next addition.

_______

Got a child who would choose cars over just about anything?

Connetix Transport pieces allow kids to take their magnetic tile worlds beyond buildings and create vehicles, roads, ramps, garages and entire little cities. They're fantastic for combining magnetic tile building with the cars and imaginative play your child already loves.

_______

And for the big kids - Connetix Pro

Connetix Pro has been designed for older and more advanced builders who are ready for more detailed and challenging construction. The PRO system uses smaller pieces, stronger magnets and Smart-Spin™ technology that allows the magnets to rotate 360 degrees.

That means builders can create in new directions and tackle more intricate, functional designs. So if you've got an older child who has moved beyond simple magnetic tile houses but still LOVES constructing, designing and engineering things - They can simply level up.

What age are Connetix best for?

Classic CONNETIX magnetic tiles are recommended for ages 3+.

But one of their biggest strengths is how the way children play with them can change as they grow. A younger child might connect tiles, recognise colours and create simple 2D shapes. As their skills develop, those same pieces can become houses and towers. Later, they're experimenting with symmetry, engineering, gravity, complex structures and elaborate imaginative worlds.

It's open-ended. It's designed to grow with them. You can build a collection gradually. Different ages can play together. And there are genuinely SO many ways to use the same pieces. And fair warning… once you start the collection, there's a very good chance you'll find yourself just as invested in the builds as the kids are.

Happy Shopping!
